Hi Loves! I recently got back from mine and my husband’s annual birthday trip and this year we chose the beautiful Providenciales also known as “Provo”, Turks and Caicos. This has been a bucket list destination of mine for some time now and it most definitely met my expectations. With its crystal clear waters, amazing food and gorgeous scenery the island is the perfect destination for all types of travelers.
Being so close to the U.S, it makes it super easy to travel to. The locals are lovely and super welcoming and it’s also one of the safest places I’ve ever visited. The downside? Turks is super expensive due to everything having to be imported to the islands, so this is definitely not a budget friendly trip.
Best time to visit the islands:
We traveled here the first two weeks of June and for the most part we had perfect weather. It was sunny and hot the entire time. Temperatures were in the 90’s, however, so if this is too hot for you I recommend going earlier in the year.
According to Google, the best time to visit the island is February, March and April due to the weather and availability. However, in my opinion I think the time we went, which was early June was a better choice. February- April is peak season due to Spring break and I have heard nothing but horror stories about the crowded and insufferable airport during those times. June is the beginning of the off season but we had almost perfect weather the entire time and the island wasn’t super crowded. It’s really just a gamble but I would definitely recommend staying away from the islands between August and November due to hurricane season.
Where we stayed:
We stayed at the Royal West Indies resort and I have nothing but amazing things to say about it! There are tons of beautiful and high end resorts in Turks and Caicos, but for the most part they are all on the pricier side. We found Royal West Indies to be cheaper than most resorts but still within a prime location, clean and had a beautiful beach and rooms. I highly recommend this resort! It’s perfect if you are traveling with a family as well because the rooms have a kitchenette, and upon booking some have a full kitchen as well. Located right on the main strip near the Ritz and Club Med, this resort was walking distance to a lot of the main restaurants, bars and casinos. It’s also located on a huge stretch of beach on Grace Bay and has the number one happy hour restaurant on the island located right on the hotel grounds. The resort was super clean and the rooms were spacious and well-kept. It also includes two pools (an adult-only and main pool,) as well as a hot tub and waterfall. The staff was amazing and I will continue to recommend this resort to any of my family, friends and followers heading to the island!
Other resorts I would recommend but at a higher price point is the sands, the Ritz Carlton, Seven Stars, Grace Bay Club and Windsong on the Reef.
Where to eat:
Turks and Caicos has some of the best food I have yet to find in the Caribbean. With the freshest seafood, including their signature conch fritters, I didn’t have a single bad meal. Everything was tasty and there are a ton of restaurants to choose from all with a beautiful ambiance and aesthetic. Below, I’ve listed some of my absolute faves while we were there.
Da Conch Shack:
This is the place to be, especially on Wednesday nights! Enjoy a live DJ from 5pm-12am as well as the Junkanoo band at 8pm. This restaurant featured traditional and modern dishes and some of the freshest seafood on the island. The jerk wings and conch fritters are delicious and the staff members were super attentive and friendly. The bar and restaurant sits right on the beach and is a great time for families as well. We even enjoyed a fire breathing show while we were there! Make sure to make a reservation as this is one of the most popular places to eat on the island.
Infiniti Restaurant and Raw Bar:
Located at Grace Bay Club Resort, this restaurant has the most stunning ambiance. With a live singer and the sound of the waves crashing on the beach you will enjoy the perfect night out. My Filet was cooked to perfection and was sooo buttery soft! I still think about it to this day. Amazing! We also had the grilled octopus and that was divine as well.
Grace’s Cottage:
My Husband surprised me and took me here to celebrate my birthday and it was an incredible experience. The French-inspired menu was delicious and the ambiance was even better! I loved the cozy and romantic vibe of the place.
Vita at Rock House:
Think Greece meets Turks when dining at this incredible restaurant. The restaurant is 30 ft above sea level with stunning views of the ocean and THE place to catch the purple and pink sunsets. It features an Italian style menu with a little bit of Caribbean flare. The lemon pasta was incredible!
What to do:
There’s a ton to do in Turks and Caicos! Whether you’re an adrenaline junky, relax on the beach type of person or want to explore all the nature and marine life, there’s something for everyone.
Horseback riding in the ocean:
This is probably one of the most popular things to do in Turks and for good reason because it looks like an amazing experience. Riding horses into the crystal blue waters of the island? Yes Please! It looks like a dream. There are three riding stables on Provo to choose from. Unfortunately we didn’t get to do it because they all book up about 6 months in advance, so if this is on your bucket list make sure you secure your spot ASAP.
Kayak through the mangroves:
Take a clear kayak through the mangroves and experience a ton of marine life in the bluest of waters. This excursion is reasonably priced and is perfect for couples and families who want to explore and check out the turquoise waters from a closer perspective.
Go on a boat and or snorkeling tour:
There are a ton of different boat tours in Turks and I love how big of a variety there is. You can find everything from private tours, sunset tours or a booze cruise and snorkel tour.
Jet Skiing in Sapodilla Bay:
One thing about me is that if there’s jet skiing available I’m gunna do it! We headed out to the gorgeous Sapodilla bay for an afternoon of fun in the sun and decided to rent some jet skis. We did an hour ride and if I remember correctly it was around $250 dollars per person. This may seem pricy, but I like the fact that the jet skis were brand new and you got to roam free in the ocean with a ton of open space. This was one of the highlights of our trip!
Adopt a pup for the day or forever from Potcake Place K9 Rescue:
A Potcake is a breed of island dog found in Turks and Caicos as well as the Bahamas. They’re known for their fun and loving personality as well as their long legs and ears. At Potcake Place K9 Rescue you can adopt a dog and take them back to the United States with you. The best part? The rescue sets everything up for you to make the process as easy as possible.
If you aren’t planning on adopting a dog furever you can also enjoy a socialization walk that is available at the rescue. I absolutely love the concept of this because it allows the pups to get out and socialize each day and exercise. On the other hand it benefits tourists because who doesn’t want to spend a few hours with an adorable puppy during their time on the island? The process is first-come-first-serve and depends on the number of dogs available to walk on that particular day. I recommend getting there no later than 9:30 am because there is always a long line and only so many available pups.
This has to be one of my favorite things we did while in Provo and we fell in love with Wyn, an adorable black and white Potcake pictured above. It’s so easy to fall in love with these pups, so even if you can’t adopt you can always donate or take them on a walk to get some ice cream or head to the beach.
Turks and Caicos is the perfect island getaway spot. I hope if you get a chance to go here you love it as much as we did! Also make sure to check out my YouTube channel where I take you guys along with us through out our entire trip:)!
xoxo,
