Banishing Clutter and Creating Space In A Small Home

Small houses have a few benefits over big ones. They’re much easier to maintain, cheaper to buy, and cost less to look after. The only downside is that you don’t get as much space as you would in a bigger home. For many families, this is a massive dealbreaker. It’s tempting to instantly search for bigger houses and sell your small one – but let’s not make any rash decisions!

Instead, think about ways you can create more space in a small home. For me, this is easily achievable by getting rid of clutter. The less stuff there is lying around your home, the more room you have to move. It opens the house up and makes a small space feel much larger.

With that in mind, here are three ways to banish clutter from your house and create huge amounts of space:

Self-storage facilities

Some of your clutter may have either sentimental or financial value attached to it. While you never use it or need it, you don’t want to throw it away. Plus, it can be too big and takes up far too much storage space. As a consequence, you could benefit from self-storage facilities. Essentially, you pay a fee to store your items in a facility that keeps them safe. If you need them, you’re free to go and pick them up. For me, this is one of the best ways to protect valuable belongings while also freeing up space in your home.

External storage space

The biggest issue with clutter is finding the space to store it all. If you pack it away into storage containers, you can tidy your home. However, you still might not create extra space because all of the new storage containers take up just as much room! Instead, you should look at an external storage space outside your home. A garage is a great example, but it’s unlikely your small house will have one. So, you could use a garden shed to fill this role instead! You can get more information on garden sheds online, but you’ll be amazed at how spacious they can be. Putting one in your back garden will give you a place to store loads of clutter. The best thing is, you don’t take up space inside your home, so it feels much bigger.

Organize your belongings

Yes, you have to organize your belongings if you want to get rid of clutter. What I’m saying is that you should go through your things and put them into groups. If an item is essential or needs to be kept, you keep it! Sounds pretty simple right? If you have no use for it, throw it out! This is the easiest way to see how much stuff you have in your home that no longer serves a purpose. You’ll be quite embarrassed by how much clutter can very quickly be removed as it’s just junk. I know I sure am.

With these three tips, you will remove clutter from your home and make small spaces more spacious. Following this, you need to stay vigilant in how you deal with things in your house. Don’t hoard things or keep boxes and rubbish lying around. If something doesn’t have a purpose, get rid of it right away.
